The Minnesota State Patrol operates ITS applications such as computer-aided dispatching, in-car mobile data computers (MDC's), automatic vehicle location, in-squad video cameras, and a downlink system providing aerial video to ground units and web users. The Patrol is jointly involved with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in deploying nine TOCC (Transportation Operation and Communications Centers) in rural Minnesota, which utilize a host of ITS applications designed to improve public safety and transportation services provided by both agencies. The State Patrol is also involved with ITS research projects, such as an intelligent vehicle initiative, determining how to detect and detect fatigued drivers, and remote freeway closure systems.
